..that I’ve read so far is by Stratfor: The Political Nature of the Economic Crisis.
Sorry that my blogging has been reduced to a trickle, but my cold has made it tough to keep up with news and such.
From Producer Ted Hope’s keynote speech at Film Independent’s Filmmaker Forum:
We, the filmmakers, aren’t in crisis. The business is changing, but for us — us who are called Indie Filmmakers — that’s good that the business is changing.
The good news is it’s treatable. I wish him a speedy recovery.
Mr. O’Rourke - one of my favorite authors and certainly one of the funniest writers out there - made the announcement in a funny op-ed piece yesterday, here.

I know. I’m a little late with the news. I have a cold and haven’t been following current events as closely as usual. But for what it’s worth, here’s a nice obit for Mr. Newman from THR.
May he rest in peace.

What? But Obama is The One. There must be some mistake.
What does the Obama campaign mean by “Debates are not a good format for Obama”?
Turns out the reusable shopping bag is just another instance of the Soft Hypocrisy of Green Living.
A federal grand jury is on it in L.A. And some familiar names are popping up. Among them: Fannie-man Franklin Raines (whom Obama has approached on economic matters, according to the WaPo) and Democratic Senator Chris Dodd (didn’t he draft yesterday’s bailout plan?).

The farcical anti-video game crusading attorney got disbarred yesterday by the Florida Supreme Court after multiple instances of misconduct.
I don’t know what got into Mr. Thompson, but either he is obsessed with his concept of video games as tools of the devil or he is obsessed with how much money he could make from suing video game companies.
At any rate, I’m sure he’ll be back in one way or another, but not as an attorney (at least not a Florida attorney).

That’s right: French! What’s the big objective here? Turn every Red State redder?
Talk about playing with fire.
This is going to be demagogued big time by the GOP.
Kudos to the guys at the Jawa Report who just keep digging into this story. They’ve been at it for days now! Unlike the mainstream media.
I saw a story about this failed botanic garden project on TV months ago, but frankly nevcer thought it would end up being investigated any further.
The money definitely went to anything other than finishing the project. I mean, the place can’t even be called a park. It’s ridiculous.
Close, but no cigar.
UPDATE: Democrats blame McCain. Good luck with that.
Infringement through file sharing has just been defined upwards.
Let’s see what the RIAA does now.
Byron York thinks McCain’s gambit could pay off and Obama may have to consider skipping the debate after all.
Is it that old OODA loop playbook again?
Lest we forget, Bill Clinton isn’t helping Obama here.
UPDATE: Latest from each campaign is that the candidates are spending the night in DC.
ANOTHER UPDATE: McCain’s plans for Friday announced.
Seriously -assuming this is true – will the Dem leadership in Congress ever learn?
You just can’t take their word for it when it comes to this stuff..

You gotta wonder, especially after this.

Very cool.
Great tip and definitely worth a try, if you’re willing to pay a deposit.
I’m not surprised either, Professor Reynolds.
I just don’t understand it. Either you want to stop global warming or you don’t. You can’t have it both ways.
And I mean in practical terms. Forget about intellectually. That’s not even part of the discussion in this issue and many others (unfortunately).

Via The Corner: Just wait till the McCain campaign gets a hold of the news. Not that the McCain camp haven’t touched on the topic before.
Johnson’s involvement comes at a moment when political association with the failed mortgage giants is particularly toxic. He was already the subject of a McCain ad attacking Obama.
Just adding more fuel to the fire. I don’t understand why his involvement is not being kept secret. I mean, what’s the plus side here? Is there one?
A reader was wondering how come I have not mentioned the Washington Post/ABC poll that shows Obama 9 points ahead. And also asked if I was omitting any mention of it out of rank partisanship.
Well, this is a partisan blog. Like most other blogs – and much of the mainstream press today – I take sides (usually mine. I’m neither Democrat nor Republican. I’m just a conservative).
Facts are facts, you might say. Why not mention the poll anyway? Well, polls are not that simple. Not all polls are created equal; and some are more reliable than others.
For one, the Washington Post/ABC Poll that shows a 9-point Obama bounce is a little controversial as to its methodology. And even the guys at FiveThirtyEight.com – who are very much Obama supporters – seem to have omitted any mention of it.
That aside, even without going into details, I’d be very suspicious of any poll that shows a sudden bounce of that many points for either candidate this late after the conventions. The race is extremely close, as I’ve said before. In fact, according to the WSJ, this remains the case even in spite of the financial crisis.
UPDATE: Incidentally, that WSJ article wraps up with the following reference to the aforementioned WaPo/ABC poll:
The Journal/NBC News poll comes a day after a national poll conducted for the Washington Post and ABC News found Sen. Obama with a nine-point lead. Mr. Hart, the Journal’s Democratic pollster, argued that these results were skewed because their sample included a disproportionate number of Democrats. Democrats had a 16-point advantage in the Post/ABC poll, which is considerably higher than most polls have found historically and even this year.
The Journal/NBC poll found an eight-point advantage for Democrats.
FROM MCCAIN AND OBAMA:
JOINT STATEMENT OF SENATOR JOHN MCCAIN AND SENATOR BARACK OBAMA
For Immediate Release
Contact: Press Office
Wednesday, September 24, 2008
ARLINGTON, VA — Today, U.S. Senators John McCain and Barack Obama issued the following statement:
“The American people are facing a moment of economic crisis. No matter how this began, we all have a responsibility to work through it and restore confidence in our economy. The jobs, savings, and prosperity of the American people are at stake.
“Now is a time to come together — Democrats and Republicans — in a spirit of cooperation for the sake of the American people. The plan that has been submitted to Congress by the Bush Administration is flawed, but the effort to protect the American economy must not fail.
“This is a time to rise above politics for the good of the country. We cannot risk an economic catastrophe. Now is our chance to come together to prove that Washington is once again capable of leading this country.”
But not quite following McCain. Obama’s going at the President’s invitation.
I think that defuses McCain’s gambit from earlier. Sure, he’ll leave the proposal to cancel the debate on the table. But I doubt Obama will bite. And I think that was the whole point of the offer: to make Obama follow McCain’s lead. Because I doubt very much McCain won’t show up to debate.
On the other hand, McCain does look like a leader because he suspended his campaign on his own, not after the President made his speech and at anyone’s invitation. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the way they spin, anyway.
UPDATE: Related analysis from Rich Lowry at The Corner.
Huge stunt. Not sure it’s the right move, but it sure will get attention. He’s trying to knock Obama off his game again. I hope it works.
It does appear to be the responsible thing to do. After all, he – like Obama – is a U.S. Senator. And there’s plenty of work to get done in Washington, what with the crisis and all.
Then again, it was Washington that got us into this mess in the first place. Democrats and Republicans, despite all the finger-pointing.
…but only in observance of the Jewish Holidays.
Wait. How’s that again?
It’s the Battle of the Corleones!
It’s hard to take sides in this situation. You’d probably get your ass kicked either way.
