Via Drudge: Rham Emanuel spoke directly with the governor.
So then Axelrod did misspeak, but Obama still lied either lied or covered up: someone in his team was actually talking to Blago.
How long till someone comes up with the most provocative bumper sticker of 2009?
UPDATE – via Instapundit: the WSJ opines the Democrats Are the New Ethics Story. Why is this piece in the editorial section? We’re talking facts here: the culture of corruption shoe is on the other foot. And it’s a perfect fit!
First they tell us Obama is “young and inexperienced”. Now he’s dealing with a “ticking time bomb” in relation to global warming and “it’s not at all clear that he and Congress will agree on an approach during a worldwide financial crisis in time to meet some of the more crucial deadlines.”
You mean Obama is probably unable to do anything about global warming before it’s too late? Oh, no!
And this is from an AP Science writer, no less. So you know he’s legit!

A reader has brought to my attention this petition to demand true conservative leadership from GOP members of Congress and the RNC.
I read it and couldn’t disagree with its demands. So I signed it.

Hmm: The Sun is reporting Chris Nolan actually has begun casting his next Batman picture.
Eddie Murphy as The Riddler? Seriously?
UPDATE: The answer is no. Eddie Murphy won’t be playing The Riddler and that comes straight from the top brass at Warners.
(Thanks to a reader for the tip)
Should know better than linking to The Sun, I guess. They can’t be publishing all falsehoods, can they?
I haven’t written any posts in almost 3 days now. I can’t believe how time has flown. I left for Mexico Monday evening on what I thought would be a short 3-hour flight, only to learn at the airport that the flight was canceled due to a shortage of passengers.
The airline, Mexicana, sent me instead to the same destination via a red eye to Mexico City. All told, it took me about 10 hours to get to my mom’s place outside Monterrey. I couldn’t sleep all night, and even developed a cold en route to my destination.
I arrived here on Tuesday morning and slept for hours. I got up in the early evening, went back to bed later that night to get up at 4AM Wednesday so we could meet my sister at the airport at 5AM. Came back to mom’s and slept for hours, again.
Now it is Thursday. I feel like I’m wasting my visit away sleeping, but in between this cold and the odd hours, I haven’t had much of a choice. Whew.
Here are the numbers and analysis from Nikki Finke.
The remake of scif-fi classic The Day the Earth Stood Still was number 1. But Clint Eastwood’s Gran Torino had a great opening for a film in limited release, achieving the best per screen average figures of the weekend (even improving on the same figures for Million Dollar Baby
). Nice.

Ha! I knew McCain would do this. I just knew it! He wouldn’t be McCain if he didn’t.
Although the term “scolds” is a little over the top given his actual words, I think. Still, the substance of his words are pretty outrageous, but we should be used to this sort of conduct. He is, after all, very much a RINO.
UPDATE – JWF has read my mind:
A gift-wrapped scandal that could consume the Democrats drops in our laps and you want to criticize us for taking advantage?
The mind boggles.
Yup.
Aren’t video games just wonderful? Now a study indicates real time strategy video games such as Rise of Nations may improve critical cognitive skills in older folks.
Perhaps it’s better to start this therapy as early in life as possible, no?

This AP story prompts me to ask: where’s the hope?
They even call Obama – gulp – “young and inexperienced”. Are we being prepared for disappointment here?
Looks like it made quite an impression on Anne Thompson, as well as on Time magazine’s and the WSJ‘s resident film critics.
I’ve been an Eastwood fan for decades, so I can’t wait to see it myself.

Top 5 Movies That Celebrate Food and Cooking (from a Dr. Fiancee tip).
I haven’t seen a single one of them. If I have a favorite cooking movie it’s Big Night (which co-stars Isabella Rosellini, Stanley Tucci and Tony Shalhoub. Great indie flim). And, somewhat perversely, Delicatessen
.
Hey, it’s a comedy. OK? I like it for the comedy.
Anne Thompson is on a Trailer Watch and she has included several links related to McG’s new Terminator sequel. But PG-13? What is this? A Short Circuit sequel or a Terminator
sequel?
Nice: Damn You, McG! I Don’t Want to Like Your Movie! (via a reader’s tip)
And Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon, and Doubt have the most nominations.
I can’t wait for the bumper stickers and website banners. If I weren’t so busy, I’d make them myself. Maybe sell some merchandise on line.
Even if no actual bribing took place, it’s catchy and good enough to become emblematic of the taint that will surround the Obama team for the foreseeable future. Sad that it has to be that way.
As for the lying, I think it’s pretty obvious it did take place. Even if some Obama sympathizers would rather that we never find out.
Don’t get me wrong. Like most Americans, I want Obama to succeed; but if his people and himself are going to be so careless and clumsy, they have no one to blame but themselves. And sweeping the whole thing under the carpet is not good enough. Obama needs to step up to the plate and shake the Nixon off his suit, instead of engaging in a cover up.
Of course, although I want Obama to succeed, I’m no Obama-bot. I have to call them like I see them.
Here’s a review by Variety’s Todd McCarthy. He doesn’t seem quite satisfied by the film.
Too bad. Tom Cruise could use a hit.

This is so pathetic. The whitewashing of Obama’s prior talks with Blago looks just as bad as Obama’s lies (or Axelrod’s “misspeaking”, take your pick).
Let Obama stand on his own two feet will you? He’s a big boy now. It will be good for him. It will be good for everyone.

Oh, yes. Our California Legislature is famous for the perks it lavishes on its members, such as the brand new cars newly elected lawmakers will get at taxpayers’ expense to the tune of $1.3 million.
That’s while the state is drowning in at least $28 billion of red ink.

The L.A. Times site has posted dramatic surveillance video of three Mexican hitmen raiding a jewelry store in Mexico’s third largest city; and making quick work of a security guard, a police commander from a nearby town, his wife, and one more person.
They took no money or jewelry. They just wanted to show what they could do to an exemplary police commander.
Great. Just in time for my Christmas trip to that nearby town. (UPDATE: to clarify, the murders happened in 2007, but the video was not released until last week).

The WSJ is reporting that Tribune Co. – owner of several newspapers and TV stations – is preparing to file for bankruptcy this week.
The story is behind a paywall, so unfortunately I can’t link to it; but it hints at this being just the beginning of the end for many newspaper businesses. Their industry has seen ad sales dwindle and debt obligations become too onerous.
Stay tuned…

It might be just me.
This is the warmest December I’ve ever spent in L.A. It’s actually in the low 60s outside. Not terribly warm, but the weather lately hardly evokes any thoughts of Christmas.
This is L.A., after all. And I didn’t really grow up with a lot of snowy Christmases. But this is the first December in a long time that I can get away with wearing a t-shirt outside. So I thought I’d turn on the snow.
Looks like Christmas is happening a little earlier for the national GOP this year, despite the beating they took on November 4. Louisiana is sending two Republicans to the U.S. House of Representatives.
As a consequence, Democrat William Jefferson – who has been indicted on charges of corruption (he is the guy who is famous for being caught red handed by the FBI getting blocks of cash out of his freezer) – will not be going back to DC. Which is good. He can stay back home and focus with his attorneys on defending his case in court.
Yes, he is a Democrat. You can check if you want.
UPDATE – Via Instapundit: more on Ahn Cao, the Vietnamese-American attorney who defeated Jefferson.
