That was quick: World stocks sag on concerns about Obama’s plans.

Are you on the list? WSJ: Reporters allowed into Obama’s press conference were selected in advance.
Now THAT is Change! Turning the White House Press Room into the Beltway version of a Hollywood nightclub. I wonder who carries out bouncer duties. Rham Emanuel perhaps?
I take it access won’t be contingent on how hot or fabulous you look, though, but on how friendly your questions are.
Could this possibly be a 1st Amendment violation? After all, the White House Press Room probably qualifies as limited public forum, no?
Michael Barone says congressional Republicans are polling really well vis a vis Dems as a result of the Stimu-pork backlash. It “may just be a momentary blip…and we are a long, long, long way from the November 2010 elections. But if I were a Democratic member of Congress in even a marginally marginal district, I would be just a little bit worried”. Nice.
Heck, Barone can’t be too way off the mark if reliably moderate Mort Kondracke thinks that Rush Limbaugh was right!
Also, JWF links to some staggering numbers in opposition to Stimu-pork bill.
Instapundit sees trouble ahead for Dems, economic rebound or not.
I agree. In between the recent (and on-going) Dem corruption-fest and the unpopularity of this bill, 2010 could easily turn out like 1994. But if the economy keeps tanking further after the Stimu-pork bill passes, then 2010 will be like 1994…or exceed it!
As I’ve noted before, it’s ironic how Obama has managed to make Democrats more vulnerable.
UPDATE: The Democrat Corruption Fest, a primer.
Anne Thompson has it at her blog.
Looks less “pulpy” than I expected coming from Tarantino.
Wow. The 70′s are back. I knew there was a tinge of the absurd to all the Capitol Hill hustle and bustle surrounding the passage of this awful bill, but I didn’t know it would so quickly descend into the Pythonesque:
Obama’s signature “Making Work Pay” tax credit for 95 percent of workers…would begin showing up in most workers’ paychecks in June as an extra $13 a week in take-home pay, falling to about $8 a week next January.
I’m sorry, but I have to tag this as Entertainment. It’s a joke!
Hey, you know what? The Pythons became well-known in America around the time Jimmy Carter was President. Welcome back, Carter!
COMING SOON – Inception.
Sorry, fanboys. It’s not a Batman sequel. Sounds interesting, though. And it’s sci-fi/action written by Nolan himself. Nice.

That’s still too tentative for my personal comfort…
Stimulus and Socialized Medicine: Do we really want Washington to micro-manage and second-guess our doctors?
UPDATE: Actually, I linked to a WSJ editorial warning about a “Stealth-care” measure in Congress last month, here.
Also, I just heard on the radio that Arlen Specter did not know this measure had been slipped into the “Stimulus” bill, and that he does not support it. I hope that means his vote is out.
Anyway, this is why we need to read the bill. Who knows what else lurks in there?
My friend Bruce Chang – who blogs at Between Worlds – commented to me last night (I paraphrase):
Why not just give each man, woman, child, and “undocumented individual” $30,000 $3000? There’s your $1 trillion stimulus right there. Oh, but then the fact that it’s just printing money becomes to painfully obvious, doesn’t it?
Ain’t that the truth…

Obama throws Joe Biden under the bus.

That Wasn’t So Hard, Was It? Greenwald comes around (almost) on telling it like it is regarding the Obama administration’s “Bushian” use of Executive Power, as the “Change” White House invokes a State Secrets privilege in an anti-torture lawsuit to the disappointment of ACLU-heads everywhere.
Keep your eyes on Andrew Sullivan. He has to be next. Greenwald’s new-found handle on objectivity has given Sullivan the perfect cover to do so.
STRATFOR on Joe Biden at the Munich Security Conference:
Most conference attendees were looking forward to a dramatic shift in U.S. foreign policy under the Obama administration. What was interesting about Biden’s speech was how little change there has been in the U.S. position and how much the attendees and the media were cheered by it.
After Biden’s speech, there was much talk about a change in the tone of U.S. policy. But it is not clear to us whether this was because the tone has changed, or because the attendees’ hearing has.
The AP Fact Checks Obama and catches him contradicting himself.
Wow. You know some of the Obama magic has faded away if the AP is scrutinizing Obama almost as if he were a Republican President.

NRO: 50 of the most outrageous items in the “Stimulus” package (that we know of*).
WSJ: Senate Stimulus Bill Passes Key Test Vote.
Such a close vote. 61-36. Lame. If only 2 of those 61 votes had been nays…
Or “expenses”. Tax cuts are letting taxpayers keep their own money. Generally, the money they earned. It follows then that if government hands money to people who don’t pay taxes, you certainly can’t call that “tax cuts”. The definition of “tax cuts” is – therefore – not a “judgment call”.
Somebody explain that to Michael Scherer at Time’s Swampland blog, please (and to the White House).
Scherer seems concerned about how much more money the government would have to borrow to kick-start the economy on account of any tax cuts in the Stimu-pork bill. If that is a worry, he should then ask the government to scale back. We are all opting for austerity now. Why not the State?
At any rate, opposition to this Stimu-pork bill among the electorate is not entirely rooted on how many tax cuts it will or won’t allow. Consider these points:
They hoped for change, but change didn’t come.
UPDATE – Noteworthy quote: “What people want, if you’re going to spend this much money, is some reason to believe that it’s being spent in an intelligent way.”
Yup. And that’s from an Obama supporter from the bluest of Blue America.

At Instapundit, a short round-up of reactions to Obama’s fiery, “clenched fist” tone from last week.
It all sounds like running into the obese Apocalypse Now Brando right after watching him in A Streetcar Named Desire: not just unpleasant, but markedly different from what we’ve come to know – the Obama from the campaign, the inauguration, and his first week in office.
And it’s not just the tone – that was a poor speech he gave at that Democratic retreat last week, by any standard.

Is the administration’s unethical parade still going? These people are just incredible!
The NY Daily News is reporting that Obama Chief of Staff Rham Emanuel lived rent-free at U.S. Representative’s Rosa DeLauro’s DC home for five years. DeLauro is married to famous pollster Stan Greenberg, whose firm lists Emanuel as a client.
The issue here is whether Emanuel was enjoying the hospitality of a colleague or free accommodations from a private sector service-provider. If the latter, was it appropriately reported?
