UPDATED: White House in Denial
David Axelrod says people don’t care about the AIG mess.
Wishful thinking, of course. Especially since the whole AIG mess was hyped by Congress and the administration to begin with. Now that it’s backfired on them, they wish people wouldn’t care about it.
UPDATE: Politico on Obama’s communication problem:
The sluggish and unsteady response to the uproar over AIG bonuses highlights a larger problem of his White House: Obama’s surprisingly uneven campaign to educate people about the economic crisis and convince Washington and the broader public that he is in command of circumstances.
MORE: Obama demagogues AIG-gate on Leno. Why? I thought Axelrod just said that people don’t care about the AIG mess.
ANOTHER ONE: Obama’s Teleprompter swears he had nothing to do with Obama’s defense of Geithner during the Leno appearance.
AND ANOTHER ONE: Speaking of denial: “AIG means big trouble for Obama’s big agenda. Does he understand that?”
