Why do I call the Angry Left “schizoid and disconnected”? Because that’s exactly what blaming conservatism for cop killings – in reference to the Pittsburgh mass murder – sounds like: being waaay out of touch (via Instapundit).
After all, it’s not conservative groups who have left their mark on modern American history by killing cops or advocating for it. Ask Bill Ayers. He knows. Oliver Willis probably doesn’t. And even if he did he’d find a way to rationalize how the Weathermen’s cop killing misadventures were also conservatism’s fault.
So why even give Oliver another thought? Half of the time he blows his top because Glenn Reynolds chooses to italicize one word over another (I exaggerate, but you get the idea). Oliver simulates seriousness by adopting outrage. It’s like Obama’s – and I would venture much of the Left’s – M.O.: the emphasis is on form (emotion, in this case) with little or no substance.
Can’t we just discuss Mr. Kos M. Zuniga’s take instead? At least he managed to emit nonsense using less words. Thank you, Twitter!

Pew Research Center: Partisan Gap in Obama Job Approval Widest in Modern Era. Well, ever since Obama uttered his famous “I won”, bipartisanship has not exactly been the order of the day.
Meanwhile, there’s also a partisan gap in hysteria.
You know, for a political faction that is “irrelevant” and “out in the wilderness”, the Right seems to really get on the Left’s nerves. It’s like the Left isn’t quite convinced that the current state of things will last very long.
And who knows? They may be right. The Tea Party movement seems to get bigger every day, but that is not the case for Democrats.
As for the Angry Left, no new voices there either. Still sounds as schizoid and disconnected as ever.

UPDATE: The latest STRATFOR analysis points out that as far as Obama’s latest European trip goes, “smarter diplomacy” means do-nothing diplomacy, as long as it looks good:The weeklong extravaganza of G-20, NATO, EU, U.S. and Turkey meetings has almost ended. The spin emerging from the meetings, echoed in most of the media, sought to portray the meetings as a success and as reflecting a re-emergence of trans-Atlantic unity.
The reality, however, is that the meetings ended in apparent unity because the United States accepted European unwillingness to compromise on key issues. U.S. President Barack Obama wanted the week to appear successful, and therefore backed off on key issues; the Europeans did the same.
As I’ve been saying for months now, style over substance. Then again, the President wasn’t exactly stylin’ over there. Ask The Guardian…or better yet: ask an Austrian!

Talk of Ayn Rand’s novel finally being adapted to film has been around for some time, but it’s not just a rumor. The Atlas Society seems to at least support the effort and the film is in fact in development. It’s not yet a done deal, but it seems to have gotten closer to production this week (what’s with the Barney Frank photo at the link, anyway?)

If you call for help and only subway personnel hear you, do you make a sound? A judge in Queens has ruled that two subway employees had no duty to render aid to a woman who was being raped before their very eyes; nothing beyond picking up their phones, anyway.
I hope this is not a sign of a larger cultural decline. I doubt Americans as a people would ever embrace such cowardice, even if the government encourages this sort of passivity, as it arguably has in this case. Also, let’s not forget the forced passivity that results from gun control, which often denies individuals the ability to defend themselves effectively from aggressors.
Gun control or not, we should be vigilant about where our culture is heading. Look at the Brits. Over there, the situation goes beyond incentivizing cowardice: the law won’t suffer a hero.
