More signs of popular resistance to Obamacare. They can only get bigger with time. “Success will feed on itself”.
The Netroots may be Legion, but virtual activism can’t beat the flesh and bone kind. Not yet, anyway. Politicians can switch off their computers, but they can’t switch off a crowd. Ask Senator McCaskill (D-Missouri). She knows.
Thus, expect more counter-protests. The organization formerly known as ACORN – and its ilk – will no doubt look at McCaskill’s apology as a canary in the coalmine of sorts…
UPDATE: Insta-lanche! Thanks for the link, Professor Reynolds!
MORE: Related content at the NYT: Real Challenge to Health Bill: Selling Reform: “Barack Obama was able to rise from the Illinois State Senate to the presidency in large measure because of his ability to explain complex issues and then to make a persuasive argument. He now has a challenge worthy of his skills.”
If this is the best spin the NYT can put on this story, things are worse for Obamacare proponents than I had expected. I mean, even the LAT was able to discuss the concept of Funemployment.
Instead, all the NYT can do is insinuate that Americans are not digging Obamacare because they are too dense to understand the awesome benefits of healthcare rationing and government-mandated deathbed measures.
Also, see NYT: A Defining Moment Nears for President. I think he’s aware of that.
ANOTHER UPDATE: But is Obama really unaware of this important detail of the House’s healthcare bill?
Two things: (1) When Obama says he doesn’t know what Section 102 provides, I think he’s telling the truth. Odds are he doesn’t know the content of every clause and provision of the House bill. Why would he? It’s not the final bill he would sign. (2) But does he know whether his proposed healthcare plan would outlaw private insurance or not? I think he does. He just had to dissemble to avoid discussing the point since he’s already contradicted himself a couple of times discussing it before.
