UPDATED: Smile, Van Jones…

This is the first day of the rest of your life.

Yes, it’s a little unfair.  You’re no more of a hack than Robert Gibbs; and yet he’s still at the White House.  No doubt you’ll attribute this result to the color of Gibbs’s skin.  But the truth – no pun intended – behind your dismissal is that your views resemble Obama’s too closely: you’re not at all happy with the fact that the USA is unlike any other country in the world.

In other words, you should have been thrown under the bus last year, with Ayers and Wright.  But Obama kept you on the sidelines until now, thinking that no one would care for what you stand for.  So chalk it up to bad timing and a lack of executive chops.

I kinda feel sorry for your ex-boss.  The frustration must be giving him lots of gray hair.  He must have thought it was going to be so easy: adoring press, a “mandate” myth, “I won”, 70% job approval, etc.  And now he can’t even exercise his plenary powers without getting second guessed and prevailed upon by…some mob.

But look at the bright side, Mr. President.  If the press had done its job with Van Jones as well as it did with Joe “the Plumber” and Sarah Palin, your job approval would be even lower.*
