I suppose good propaganda can come in small packages, but this is not one of them: Obama has suspicious number of letter-writing fans named ‘Ellie Light’.
Is Ellie Light several people at Media Matters? Is it Robert Gibbs? Is it a clumsy intern at MSNBC? Who knows? But whoever Ellie is, he/she is not very good at appearing plausible.
“Ellie”, however, sure is disingenuous, which is a hallmark of a PR professional trying to spin the unspinnable…and also the hallmark of a blind Obama loyalist. Judge for yourself. Here are some of Ellie’s communications:
It’s time for Americans to realize that governing is hard work, and that a president can’t just wave a magic wand and fix everything.
Sure, Ellie; but a president whose party also controls the House and Senate should be able to do much more than Obama has done. Obama’s signature program at this stage – over one year after his inauguration – is the so-called Stimulus, which has been fraught with irregularities and not really stimulated anything (maybe you’ve been too busy writing letters to notice).
Next:
The letter I wrote was motivated by surprise and wonderment at the absence of any media support for our President, who won a record-breaking election by a landslide less than 18 months ago, and now, seems to be abandoned by all, supposedly for the infantile reason that he couldn’t make all of Bush’s errors disappear in one day.
“No media support”? You’re not fooling anyone on that one, Ellie. Let’s move on: “Record-breaking election by a landslide”? Never happened. 53% of voters went for Obama in 2008. That’s no mandate. And even if it were a mandate, the American people are free to change their minds about their president at any time, regardless of how many votes he secured on Election Day.
I also doubt very much that people are dissatisfied with Obama because he couldn’t make all of Bush’s errors disappear in one day. As much as Obama loyalists want to blame everything on “the last 8 years”, most Americans are not looking that far back. They’re looking ahead, and they don’t like what they see.
OK. Enough beating up on Ellie Light. After all, someone has to be the lone voice crying in the wilderness; and – as we learned on Tuesday night – right now Obama supporters are the only ones suited for that role.
