Professor Jacobson on Leftie reaction to Adam Gadahn’s capture.
Gadahn’s capture will not boost confidence in Obama, folks. Maybe his poll numbers will see a bounce momentarily, but nothing beyond that.
You know why? Because Obama will screw up this achievement, true to form. You just wait. If Obama responded to an Al Qaeda near-strike with the Towel of Indifference, you can’t expect him to capitalize successfully on Gadahn’s capture, especially after the KSM trial fiasco.
If I’m wrong about this one, great. It’ll only prove that the Left is not in control of this aspect of the national security debate. And that’s a good thing.
But Obama is trapped. He needs to please his base, but he also needs to wash off the stench of weakness on national security in which his administration has been wallowing for months now. He can’t please both sides. So he either pisses off one of them or approaches Gadahn in an ineffective, half-baked fashion…but – don’t worry, Lefties – it’ll all be Bush’s fault. So take comfort.
