RIP, Rhetori-canine
My dog Junior, awesome canine companion of 14+ years, died today of natural causes – quite suddenly – during a walk around the block. He aged quite a bit in the last 12 months. In fact, every day he was more lethargic; and seemed to move with more difficulty. He wasn’t chronically ill or suffering from any injury. It was just his time. Still, he had a lot of spirit right to the end. And he died while engaged in one of his favorite past times: the afternoon walk.
I rescued him when he was 9 months old, back in 1997. We had a lot of history together, full of good times. My wife loved him just as much as I did. She met him back in 2006, when we started dating.
As the cliche goes, there’s no way to prepare for this sort of thing. We knew it was coming, but it hurts a lot. I rushed him to a local emergency pet hospital. Resuscitation was attempted, but to no avail.
Rest in peace, Junior. You are – and will be – missed.
