James Sherk: FDR warned us about public sector unions:
The founders of the labor movement viewed unions as a vehicle to get workers more of the profits they help create. Government workers, however, don’t generate profits. They merely negotiate for more tax money. When government unions strike, they strike against taxpayers. F.D.R. considered this “unthinkable and intolerable.”

“In an interview set to air this weekend, George Soros accuses President Obama of ‘losing control’ and letting Republicans set the agenda on the economy.”
Correction, Mr. Soros: Obama didn’t let them set the agenda. The Tea Party movement made them set it. But you’re probably too European to understand how that can even be possible.
Indeed, the Left is going to need a bigger Sorosphere. But remember: there are no permanent victories in politics. This agenda that you have seen sweeping into Washington so decisively can just as easily be swept away.

MMFA: Fox News insider says that at the cable network “stuff is just made up.”
And no organization or website on the Left would ever do that, I suppose. Is that why accusations of racial epithets uttered against a certain member of the U.S. Congress remain unsubstantiated? How about this fancy video editing job at MSNBC? Or this other transparently false video courtesy of Think Progress? How about Journo-list’s propagandistic cabal leading up to the 2008 elections? Ezra’s crazy kids went out of their ways to create an entire alternate reality. But forget them. Let’s focus on Fox News.
I don’t get the $orosphere’s hate for Fox News. So the network tends to make the Left look bad and the Right look good. So what? They reach less than 2 million viewers every day, which gives them an audience bigger than any other cable news network; but still, that amounts to less than 1% of the U.S. population. And that’s why the Left can’t get any traction?
Perhaps the source of the Left’s problem getting its messages out and making them stick lies elsewhere…

WaPo’s Eugene Robinson picks up where Andrea Mitchell left off:
The Republican Party tries to claim the Reagan mantle but has moved so far to the right that it now inhabits its own parallel universe. On the planet that today’s GOP leaders call home, Reagan would qualify as one of those big-government, tax-and-spend liberals who are trying so hard to destroy the American way of life.
Some Republicans, I suppose, might be so enraptured by the Reagan legend that they are unaware of his actual record. I hate to break it to Sarah Palin, but Reagan raised taxes. Often. Sometimes by a lot.
Tries to claim the Reagan mantle? Now, that’s funny.
What Robinson doesn’t mention at all is that Ronald Reagan – as both governor and President – could only wield Executive Power. Under our system of government, the Executive is not endowed with the power to tax, even in California. I don’t know what the California legislature was like when Ronnie was governor, but I do know that the U.S. Congress was controlled by Democrats throughout the Reagan administration. It is more likely than not that any tax hikes and non-military government growth during the Reagan years is attributable to the Democrats in Congress at the time (who in fact overrode many a Reagan veto), rather than to Reagan being a Schwarzenegger Republican. The notion alone is so silly as to be amusing, especially since it wasn’t that long ago that Reagan was in power.
Why, I remember how much the Left and the MSM used to hate Reagan as well as I remember shopping for cassette tapes to hear on my Walkman (if you don’t know what a Walkman is, do some research – you’ll be amazed). They must be desperate to try to invoke his memory now and make Reagan their own. Try again in a generation, Mr. Robinson. Maybe – just maybe – it’ll work then…

First Arianna Huffington immanentizes a fortune on the back of free labor, then Michael Moore legalizes his own greed – literally – and now this: CNN: Founder of TV network aimed at countering Muslim stereotypes is found guilty of beheading his wife.
Too bad there isn’t a conservative version of The Daily Show. Tonight’s show would’ve been a riot…
UPDATE: Related: “Critics of capitalism find criticizing capitalism to be a pretty lucrative capitalist venture”. Heh. Indeed. And as I’ve noted before, some wealthy people in this country possess Class Warfare Immunity.
We can add Olbermann to that list now that he’ll be part-owner of Current TV. Appropriate, perhaps, since it’s known as the “The Most Valuable Cable Channel That Nobody Watches”. Though I suppose he’s getting paid in equity because they can’t afford to pay him his going rate and they could really use him (as disliked as Olby is, he does have a following – and that’s valuable in any media business). Cable channels generally operate with relatively smaller budgets, especially one with Current’s tiny audience.
And why wouldn’t Olby take the job? As with Michael Moore and Arianna Huffington, Olby’s eschatonic aspirations probably end where his checking account begins…

Michael Moore in 2009: “Capitalism is…about protecting the wealthy and legalizing greed.”
Michael Moore today: “Filmmaker Michael Moore has sued Harvey and Bob Weinstein accusing the brothers of [having] cheated him out of at least $2.7 million in profits from the hit documentary Fahrenheit 9/11“.
Michael Moore has personally profited from Farenheit 9/11 to the tune of at least $21 million (as of 2005). I guess it’s ok to use the law to protect one’s own right to wealth…if you are Michael Moore, that is…
UPDATE: “He redefines the term ‘greedy’”, says the Weinstein’s attorney. Of course he would say that. But he has a point.

…on who owns Reagan’s legacy…or something:
In attempting to praise Ronald Reagan and his legacy, NBC’s Andrea Mitchell ruffled the feathers of conservative columnist Peggy Noonan on Meet the Press when Mitchell claimed Republicans are “trying to appropriate Ronald Reagan for their own political purposes now.”
I guess if you are Andrea Mitchell, it’s ok for Obama to appropriate Reagan for his own political purposes, but not for Republicans to do the same.
It’s amusing that anyone would have an issue with Republicans “claiming Reagan as a mantle”. Because, you know, it’s not like Reagan was a successful Republican leader or anything like that. Now, odds are not every Republican who invokes Reagan does so sincerely, but…does Obama?
UPDATE: Ed Driscoll links with a couple more of Mitchell’s greatest hits. Thanks!
