UPDATED: The Leader Who Wasn’t There (And One Who Was)
Photoshop of the week: Commander-in-Leisure.
Plus, further evidence that Dick Cheney is still president? Hey, sometimes I wonder.
Absurd, I know. I’m joking, of course. Me? Hatching fanciful conspiracy theories like so much of Leftie-dom?
But here’s one anyway, just to give them a little more whiplash: what if president Obama launched this pre-emptive (Libya hasn’t attacked us, remember?) and hurried (only one U.N. Resolution? Bush waited till there were 17) attack to bolster his declining popularity and to distract us from the miserable economic situation from which his administration has been unable to extract us?
Or is the Lybian War part of the Summer of Recovery? It’s been said that WWII helped FDR – whom Obama was expected to emulate – put an end to the Great Depression, after all.
Of course, the administration will probably point to how this is really a war launched by European powers; and that the USA is just tagging along, not leading it (and it’s hard to disagree). But if that is the case, why did Obama have our American forces join this campaign? He could have easily vetoed the whole thing in the U.N. security council.
Don’t forget that this is an administration that puts politics above everything. Heck, just after the November 2010 drubbing Democrats took at the polls, we couldn’t stop hearing about how Obama was prepared to follow the lead of Ronald Reagan himself. The community organizer from Chicago was going to be like Reagan? Who writes this stuff? (Probably the same people who dare to say that Reagan wasn’t a conservative).
Reagan – incidentally – ordered an attack on Libya, too. But he only had to bomb Libya for a few minutes. And that was enough to keep Ghadaffi sedate for over two decades. The average conspiracy theorist would probably insert Reagan-worship into the Obama War conspiracy theory, but that’s too freaking far-fetched to be believable. Reagan was always perceived as meaning business about America’s role in the world. While Obama evidently doesn’t really care about it.
But that’s probably why Reagan solved the problem with one raid in less than one day. Obama instead has committed the US to a war for regime change in a foreign country. If Obama really was all about emulating Reagan (or if he at least believed in the importance of America’s leading role in the world), BHO would have shown so much determination early on that Ghadaffi would have observed last week’s cease fire instead of violating it. And we wouldn’t be launching all those multi-million dollar Tomahawk missiles right now, instead of using that money to bolster the benefits of public employees in Wisconsin and beyond for a nationwide economic stimulus (yuk, yuk).
So, the question remains: why did Obama enter this war? Or as Lefties often asked themselves while supporting the enemy opposing the Iraq war: who benefits?
See? This is how conspiracy theories get started…
UPDATE: How it’s done (via Smitty, who reminds us of another area – closer to home – where determination is crucial. And that in turn reminds me of this other thought).
