And it works!
And how couldn’t it? It’s easy to ridicule the ridiculous.
That aside, Colby Hall’s commentary at the link is off-target. Insinuating that this and other efforts by Stewart to point out how Obama keeps breaking promises shows that “when it comes to this White House, Stewart is not necessarily the strict left-of-center ideologue that he’s made out to be by right-of-center commentators” is – if not worthy of ridicule – certainly worth some analysis. How does that speak to Stewart’s ideology, really? Isn’t it more likely that Stewart’s penchant for pointing out Obama’s inconsistencies speaks to Stewart’s intellectual honesty (and his disappointment in Obama)?
Or maybe Colby just means to say that lofty, empty promises are an inherent component of left-of-center politics. If so, I agree with her…
UPDATE: The pre-emptive application of Rule 5 to Obama’s re-election bid by the GOP last week has given us an Obamania gauge of sorts: “YouTube’s metrics tend to lag a bit, but the numbers suggest that — energy-wise — we’re in 2010, not 2008.” (via Insty)
