UPDATED: Irony Alert: Liberals and ‘Celebrity Apprentice’

The Atlantic: “Exclusive research reveals ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ viewers are the most Democratic in primetime TV.”

So what are the odds that Trump’s birther antics are really all about publicity?  That’s about as ironic a revelation as the fact that Trump is a big Dem donor.  And also as ironic as the disparity in airtime between MSNBC and CNN’s coverage of birther wackiness and the coverage at Fox News.

This disparity sort of makes Lawrence O’Donnell’s whining about Trump and NBC sound even more, well, whiney.  But it goes hand in hand with the theory that Birtherism was initially envisioned as beneficial to Obama before it all got out of control.  Indeed, if Birthers didn’t exist, the Supine Media would have invented them.  Heck, remember Edit-Gate?

Plus, more TV-viewing research: Why do liberals love wife swapping?  Lefties can be creepy.  Cases in point: Trig-Trutherism (AKA The Andrew Sullivan Cycle) and Trig-Hating (Hello, Wonketteers!).

Which reminds me: Television’s sole purpose is to sell advertising.  I learned that way before I got started in the business back in the mid-90s.  So how come no one has organized yet to call for boycotts of Apprentice‘s sponsors ?  Didn’t Glenn Beck become the object of Leftie boycotts for far less?  Is it because Trump doesn’t need Apprentice (given that he is independently wealthy)?

UPDATE: It just occurred to me: doesn’t Celebrity Apprentice parallel the crony capitalism and bailout-mania so ardently embraced by the Obama administration and so much of Leftie-dom?   Is that why the show was so popular with liberals till Trump went birther?  I’ve never seen Apprentice in any of its iterations, but I know that at the heart of Celebrity Apprentice there is one central authority picking winners and losers from among a group of entertainment business wash-outs (too small to fail?).  Also, isn’t the way Trump let down his largely Dem audience also similar to the way Obama has let them all down?

Neither Trump nor Obama are who their followers thought they were.  Rarely do we get to see collective bad judgement and its consequences as publicly as this…
