So I was kindly provided with a copy of Making it in the Political Blogosphere: The World’s Top Political Bloggers Share the Secrets to Success by the author, Dr. Tanni Haas of CUNY’s Brooklyn College; and I’ve been reading it over the last few days.
The meat of the book is a series of very informative and complete interviews with the likes of well-known politics bloggers from all points of the political spectrum: There’s Arianna and Jane Hamsher, but also Lew Rockwell, Reason‘s Nick Gillespie, Thomas Lifeson (from American Thinker), Tyler Cowen (Marginal Revolution) and even Gateway Pundit‘s very own Jim Hoft – each sharing their respective experiences getting their renowned blogs off the ground; and their insights into what works, what doesn’t, plus other advice for budding political bloggers.
Interviews with successful old media transplants such as Andrew Malcolm (who blogs at Top of the Ticket for the LA. Times) and Politico’s Ben Smith are also part of the book.
An interview with Matthew Yglesias is also included, for people who like that sort of thing.
There’s also some more general information on the rise of political blogs and how to start your own, which savvy blog readers will probably find not as valuable as those who are new to new media – but the interviews are definitely fun to read and enlightening no matter how long you’ve been blogging or reading blogs, in my opinion. Check it out on Amazon. The Kindle edition is just under $10 bucks.

Hit’em where it hurts: Dem strategist accuses Romney of invoking Rev. Wright in new ad.
How dare Romney’s campaign do such a thing? This will remind viewers of Obama’s association with Rev. Wright. Outrageous!
And, of course, the Dem strategist says the ad is racist.
Just like Rev. Wright!
Right?

Journalism Is Hard: Russian newsreader makes insulting gesture at Obama.
It’s almost like the conduct of MSNBC talking heads towards any public figure that is slightly right of center. But this is much bigger, obviously. Unprofessional, uncivil. And – of course – ironic. Obama was elected on the pretense that he would make the world embrace everything American again. Especially the institution of the American presidency. Not so much, it seems.
Hank Williams Jr.’s comparing Obama’s unpopularity with that of Adolf Hitler’s was really small potatoes, when you think about it…
UPDATE: And it’s just not MSNBC…

…By the same token, I’d say the Left is ridiculously foolish which explains Obama’s rise to the presidency.
I mean, how else to explain that the “Rock Star” John Kerry introduced during the 2004 Democratic Convention has ended up like this? Didn’t anyone bother to check for a record of competence? (No.)
On the other hand, I am flattered that Roy Edroso reads my blog. Been a while since he’s linked here. And he’s no Matthew Yglesias, either (that’s a compliment, by the way).

Cult of Personality: NYT: Heaven Is a Place Called Elizabeth Warren.
Well, one person’s heaven could be another’s version of hell.
What is it with Lefties that they have to turn their idols into messiahs and demigods? And how the hell did Warren earn such admiration? Is it because of that misguided speech in which she urged business owners to pay their fair share of all the infrastructure from which their businesses benefit? (which they already do, by the way)

Newt Is Right: Newt Gingrich: MSNBC “Essentially The Obama Re-Election Team”.
Newt’s a hell of a debater. And incredibly adept at smacking the bias off the face of your average MSM talking head. He’d be an anti-W in that sense. I like him better than Romney any day, and not just for his debating skills and MSM-neutralizing skills.
Related: A taste of MSNBC, courtesy of the brave R.S. McCain.
