So there’s been a lot of talk about Newsweek’s anti-Obama cover story.  Naturally, it seems like quite a 180 compared to Newsweek’s standard supine MSM pro-Left stance.  But the truth is Newsweek  started to show signs of impatience with president Obama on their front cover almost a year ago.

My feeling is they are only trying to sell magazines – an essential practice in the newsweekly business at which Newsweek has been failing for years now - and this cover is just an opportunistic move to capitalize on the White House”s impopularity.

That doesn’t mean I doubt Niall Ferguson’s sincerity, of course.  Or that something – as Ed Driscoll pointed out – hasn’t broken loose in terms of the liberal lockstep.  Indeed, Obama’s magic touch with his liberal constituency has been lacking for a while now, a phenomenon I’ve referred to multiple times in the past as the Twilight of the Rubes.

You may be asking, “really, who can blame them?”  And the answer is: everyone can, because they asked for it.
