I wish that were the case, but as long as internet access is largely provided by companies such as NBCUniversal (aka Comcast) and other cable TV providers, bundled cable will remain the standard. Some people think this is only going to get worse – and I myself don’t see how it could get any better under the present circumstances.
Even the mighty Sony is having second thoughts about launching a Netflix-like service because of concerns about the hurdles cable companies could conceivably put in their path.
Will the Hulu ‘authentication’ model be the norm with streamable TV in the future? Probably not. Hulu is not so much acquiescing to the interests of the Pay TV industry as simply implementing what was supposed to be Hulu’s business model from the start. You see, Hulu is majority-owned by NBCUniversal, Fox, and Disney – three Hollywood conglomerates which separately own a large bunch of the cable channels cable companies bundle nationwide.
Forward Into Dependency! Who was the clueless marketeer at Obama 2012 headquarters who came up with the “Life of Julia” concept? Reminds me a little bit of this.
Doesn’t ‘The Life of #Julia’ look like a blueprint for a War on Women’s Prosperity? A plan to keep women on welfare till they die? Makes you wonder if Julia will ever be able to afford arugula…or a European vacation…or a hybrid.
Mitt Romney – or maybe a journalist (I know: funny) – must make the Obama camp address the Julia Initiative and explain to us why the Life of Julia is not one of optimism, opportunity, and an ever-increasing standard of living. After all, it used to be that presidential candidates in the U.S. would run on a combination of all three of the above – for all Americans.
One has to ask: Would the Life of Julia be more comfortable if she owned a piece of a corporation with connections to Obama bundlers, a la Solyndra? Or – God forbid – if she were a man?
More to the point, who gets to prosper in America if Obama gets re-elected? Because one could infer that – according to the life Obama has planned for Julia – Julia and other similarly situated women won’t, ever, in their lifetimes: “If you think Social Security benefits allow you to live your retirement without worry, you deserve Barack Obama.”

On the contrary, Howard! The general tenor of the right’s reaction to the president’s “slow-jam” performance has been about the incongruity of some Obama supporters pointing at it as evidence of Obama being cool, when everybody knows he’s not doing cool things.
Unless raiding marijuana clinics, the drone strikes in Yemen (a country with which we’re not at war), and opposing gay marriage are cool. Is that what passes for cool in elite media circles these days?
