TALKING POINT ALERT: Newt is racist because he dared talk to Juan Williams about the value of work.
Wow. I guess it’s been a slow news cycle. Where were all these defenders of racial sensitivity when Reverend Wright was spouting his venom? Ok, we know where Ezra Klein was: doctoring the news cycle with Journo-list. But what about the rest of them?
The fact is Newt could be the GOP nominee – and he could win the presidential election – because he’s not a toothless (i.e. ‘moderate’), McCainian establishment Republican. That’s why the Media-cracy now feels it must target him, especially after his devastatingly effective debate performance in South Carolina.
Newt’s demonstrated he’s not merely capable of attacking Obama and the Left (heck, even I can do that); but he can also draw a contrast between himself and Obama; between fair and unfair press coverage; between the Leftie narrative du jour and reality; and – further – between the lies Latte America (and the Ruling Class) tell themselves – which they expect us all to believe and live by – and the way life actually is for most Americans. In other words, Newt must be destroyed because he not only knows there’s a man behind the curtain, but he can also pull the curtain down at the drop of a hat. What’s more: he fights!
Never thought I’d say this, but Ezra Klein has actually influenced my thinking: Despite that Moore -esque, anti-Romney ad, I really like Newt. Maybe a little early for me to say this, but I think he is The One Who Can Beat ‘The One’.
By the way: Newt just won the South Carolina primary.

Very few donations are coming in, they said.” So everything was working just fine until they ran out of other people’s money? Sounds familiar.
Plus this:
“If we keep spending at the rate at which we have been doing, we will probably go broke in a month,” said Haywood Carey, 28 years old, a member of the movement’s accounting group.
Really, this bunch needs to tone it down a bit. There is no place for terroristic pronouncements of this sort at a peaceful protest.

That piece I posted at PJ Lifestyle yesterday about George Lucas and his African American World War II actioner Red Tails (The George Lucas Project Hollywood Wouldn’t Touch) has generated many interesting comments in the areas of race, history, Lucas’ career, and the Hollywood industry.
My piece is merely one of many reacting to Lucas’ new movie and his insinuations of racism at the big studios – though my post didn’t focus that much on the racism part. But Ed Driscoll sheds more light on the topic here: The R-Word: Hollywood Throws It Around So Effortlessly.
I agree with Ed’s points. That aside, I still believe Lucas wasn’t really accusing anyone at the studios of racism – although I also think he wanted to sound like he was (same difference?). Any resulting controversy would help spread the word about Red Tails – and that’s a bonus for the movie. But I think he believes his problem getting Hollywood studio backing for the movie is a prejudice of a different sort (as I alluded in my PJ Lifestyle post), like he explained to Reelz reporter Patrick Stinson during a red carpet interview: “Will Smith’s not in it and it’s not a sequel. If we had that, we wouldn’t have had the problem.”

“It’s as if Newt hired Michael Moore.”
Newt can’t afford Michael Moore, but that’s about right. Too bad. Newt had been quite gracious to his competitors until now. I guess he didn’t really believe GOP candidates should focus on Obama instead of attacking each other. And maybe there’s nothing wrong in and of itself with attacking each other, but this sort of class warfare B.S. is just wrong.

Obama Hack-onistes: First, he triggers party identification problems among progressives. Now it looks like he’s also losing the critical, extreme-left seal of approval.
But calling president Obama “too conservative” is unfair (especially to conservatives – oh, and remember when Reagan was not a conservative? Revisionism levels getting critical!).
The problem is not that Obama is too conservative. He just doesn’t have what it takes to be president of the U.S. of A., ideology notwithstanding. Banana republic? Sure. Mayor of Chicago. Probably. But POTUS? Not at all. How else can you explain that Obama keeps failing to make his base happy despite having had an overwhelming Democrat majority in the House and a filibuster-proof Democrat majority in the Senate for two full years?
Obama’s weaknesses should have been evident to all Lefties in 2008, but his marketeers ably diverted most people’s attention from his shortcomings with the aid of many a Leftie voice (JournoList anyone?). And now they are all mopey and disappointed because – guess what? – reading pretty from a TelePrompter, writing books, and graduating from Harvard do not qualify you for the Oval Office. Who knew?
