CBS Poll: Most Americans Feel Rhetoric, Tucson Shooting Unrelated.
The Left is going to need a bigger Sorosphere…
-
Jehuda
I don’t know what’s sadder: the Left’s woefully unsuccessful attempts to score political points over the Tucson massacre or the fact that far more important stories related to this tragedy are getting buried under the spin of how this is all Sarah Palin’s fault.
Lord knows political debate in this country took on a poisonous tone before Sarah Palin achieved any level of prominence. Heck, even before Obama started injecting death-imagery into it. Of course, it’s not just politicians who like to talk like that. And who can forget this gem?
Seriously, who are they trying to fool?
UPDATE: Et tu, Markos?
MORE: Howard Kurtz gets it right – just in part – but certainly way more than others.

I was running errands with my wife when I heard of the mass killing in Tucson. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and friends.
Later on, I saw much insinuation on the web of this tragedy being the responsibility of some hateful Tea Partier. But there were no outright accusations. The finger-pointing was rather oblique, which led me to suspect – just as this other time – that the shooter wasn’t exactly a conservative. Turns out that was in fact the case.
However – lucky for the Sorosphere – Sarah Palin’s choice of graphic design here intersects eerily with the Tucson tragedy. Crosshairs equal murder. Sure, why not? Now Lefties everywhere are having an orgiastic Palin-phobic hatefest like we haven’t seen in a while.
Hey, maybe under all that vitriol they have a point. Perhaps we shouldn’t see our political opponents as something to hit (not that that was literally the meaning of Palin’s map).
But unfortunately – not just for the Left’s rhetoric but for all Americans – President Obama disagrees.
UPDATE: Professor Douglas links. Thanks!
And at Instapundit there’s a nice round-up of the Sorosphere’s best efforts to either capitalize on the tragedy or stretching the truth to the point of breaking it. Your pick. My favorite links therein: the Democrats’ very own gun-violence-fomenting map…from 2004! (scroll down) It includes the word “Enemy” in its caption. Also, note how Arkansas has a target over it. This is where two U.S. servicemen were shot back in 2009 – one of them fatally. And you know how servicemen tend to vote. Connect the dots. Then check out this other map, from a cached link I dug out because the DCCC already sent it down the memory hole….to be replaced with this very incongruous message.

Of course they do: Progressives Cheer Mark Madoff Suicide as ‘Revolutionary Justice’.
Well, some progressives, anyway. I had the feeling Madoff’s death would be celebrated by Lefties somewhere on the internet just because he’s a Madoff, but there’s counterculture; and then there’s counterstupidity.
Calling it ‘Revolutionary Justice’ is mistaken, to say the least. Or perhaps my memory fails me; and taking credit for the actions of others when they comport with your agenda is one of Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals
. Though I thought that was just a rule of politics, period.
The issue is that revolutions – whenever they’ve happened throughout the world – have been brought about by individuals organized and acting around an idea; be it freedom, or equality, or instituting a republic, or – yes – social justice (whatever that means these days). But celebrating Mark Madoff’s death as a triumph for the cause is akin to wearing a Che Guevara t-shirt under the suit you wear to your Wall Street internship while enjoying your trust fund as you attend [insert Ivy League school here].
I don’t mean that Howie Klein is a wealthy spoiled brat who doesn’t really stand for “revolution”. I’m sure the dude is serious about his progressiveness (but given that he was the president of one of Warner Bros. record labels for more than a decade, odds are he has a bit of the capitalist pig in him).
Mr. Klein, revolutionary justice is something you and your ilk must bring about on your own. No one will ever know what – exactly – prompted Mark Madoff to kill himself, but two things are certain: (1) he didn’t kill himself because you and the red horde surrounded his fancy New York co-op and left him no alternative but to hang himself; and (2) his death – as good as it must make you feel – hasn’t made for a more just society anywhere in this country.
Revolution is something you do, not something you wait for the establishment to do for you. So, by all means, Mr Klein: Bring it, comrade. Let’s dance.
UPDATE: Another tragedy – a crime, really. And just another instance in which a more just society did not result. But as long as the Howie Kleins of the world keep celebrating random deaths as “revolutionary justice” we’ll probably see more crimes of that sort being committed.

Union Heads To Arizona to Try and Get Arrested: “The Salinas United Farm Workers said that they are going to be leaving their identification papers behind in attempts to get Arizona authorities to arrest them using racial profiling.”
This should be interesting to watch. Driving without a license should get you a ticket at the very least in most jurisdictions, but fingerprints and social security numbers can be used to establish identity – and therefore citizenship status – when an official ID is not available.
At any rate, since we’re talking about labor activists here, I expect them to legitimately get arrested for something.

STRATFOR:
In the United States it is very easy to obtain firearms and it is legal to go to a range or private property to train with them. Armed assaults are also clearly within the skill set of jihadists who have made it only through basic insurgent training…Such attacks will also allow these grassroots operatives to fight like they have been trained. When you combine all these elements with the fact that the United States is an open society with a lot of very vulnerable soft targets, it is not difficult to forecast that we will see more armed jihadist assaults in the United States in the near future.
In the United States it is very easy to obtain firearms and it is legal to go to a range or private property to train with them. Armed assaults are also clearly within the skill set of jihadists who have made it only through basic insurgent training. As we’ve mentioned several times in the past, these grassroots individuals are far more likely to strike the United States and Europe than professional terrorist operatives dispatched from the al Qaeda core group. Such attacks will also allow these grassroots operatives to fight like they have been trained. When you combine all these elements with the fact that the United States is an open society with a lot of very vulnerable soft targets, it is not difficult to forecast that we will see more armed jihadist assaults in the United States in the near future. -
